Mindfulness for Parents

We offer a mindfulness course for parents of children of any age with the intention of supporting them in one of the most rewarding, challenging and stressful jobs in the world.

The course is an adaptation of the MBCT course and as such is skills-based. Taking place over 8-weeks in the New Forest or online, it consists of a combination of mindfulness meditation practices, discussion and simple cognitive exercises, together with information on the science of parenting.

"The course has given me … a strategy to overcome the difficult moments in life  … also a strategy to give to my children in order for them to deal with their own emotions"

Course Details

This course:

  • is an experiential programme, rather than a how to parent course

  • combines mindfulness meditation with enquiry about experience, psycho-education, cognitive exercises and the art and science of parenting

  • is an 8-week skills-based course, teaching mindfulness meditation

  • enables parents to incorporate mindfulness in their daily life

  • explores how mindfulness relates to parenting

  • evolved from the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Life programme, University of Oxford

  • is designed to cultivate skillful parenting through awareness of body and mind

  • teaches emotion regulation skills that you can pass onto your child.

An understanding of our own patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving enables us to navigate the emotional and physical challenges of life and parenting and behave more skilfully in as parents by helping us to:

  • learn new ways of relating to our thoughts, emotions and behaviour

  • regulate our own emotions

  • increase our capacity for acceptance, patience, kindness and compassion

  • tap into our inner wisdom

  • stay centred in our parenting work

  • tap into inner reservoirs of patience, calm and joy

  • foster caring and interconnectedness.

We can then be fully present with our children and teach what we learn to them.
